Stairs are the real answer. Much of the housing around here went up in the 1970s and 1980s with entry steps and split-levels, and those become the riskiest part of the house as balance fades. Caregivers provide steady support on the stairs, and hands-on personal care visits are scheduled around the times of day when help matters most.

Public senior transport around here runs thin. Routes are limited and rides need advance booking, which is why driving is built into our companionship visits: caregivers take clients to appointments, the pharmacy, church, and family events, door to door, all through the winter months when driving stops being fun.
